“Liking” this post would be so inappropriate and inadequate as to how I feel about what you’re going through, Sean. You are such a beautiful spirit to think of your loved ones. And I agree, you are on both sides of the door, whichever path you take. My heart to you.
What’s the quality of your life? Heck, what’s the quality of a lot of people’s lives? It’s an unbearable decision and I can’t imagine 15 years of the grind. I know you’ll make the right decision collectively. If only a Magic 8 Ball could help. Love you 4. ❤️
It is ALWAYS a humble privilege to read your writings. You my friend are a beautiful writer, author, poet!
You offer such a GIFT by sharing what is on your heart and mind. THANK YOU. Truly, thank you.
I am so sorry you and Allison and Maya have this brutal decision. I am sorry for how no one else knows the weight of what you are carrying.
You and your family are SEEN. And LOVED. And PRAYED FOR.
I hesitate to say too much because I realize how tender this all is.
In 2018, at a Good Friday service……. I remember our Pastor saying we could pray the SAME PRAYER as Jesus did on the cross -
“Father, into your hands I commit (commend) my Spirit.” Luke 23:46
For some reason, I was awestruck by this. That we can model Christ by praying that SAME Prayer as Christ on the cross.
We probably all carry different crosses or what feels like our dark night of sorrow.
You are wise. You are thoughtful. You and Allison are praying (and others are praying). You are getting counsel. All of those steps will help you.
You might feel some relief lifted when you make a choice.
We have never met. But I respect you and your family. I am cheering for all of you in my heart and prayers! Whatever you choose- I am cheering for all three of you!
Isaiah 26:3 - You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.
Come Spirit - surround this family in abiding steadfast perfect peace. Amen
Sean, I’ve read this post at least twice. You write with beauty and eloquence even when the options you and Allison have been weighing are beyond hard. Continuing to hold you and your dear family in prayer and near in thoughts as you discern next steps. Much love to you and Allison!

Wow,
what a poignant
and painful
place...
...this open door...
...leading to
"No more"
or
"Know more"
I will definitely help you hold
"the ungraspable sands
as they continue to slip through
your trembling hands."
Perhaps you
(aka kindness and love)
are on
both sides
of the open door.
Perhaps you
(aka kindness and love)
are the door itself...
